Oxford CC - Summer Academy 2020 Weeks 1 - 3

Our 2020 Summer Academy is here for young cricketers aged between 5 and 15.

The academy is for both boys and girls aged 5‐15 and all age groups will be accommodated as appropriate. Coaching will be provided in all key skills areas, and will include (As appropriate for the age and ability of participant): • Batting: grip and stance, front foot drive, pull shot, cut, sweep, improvisation • Bowling: run up, action, seam bowling, spin bowling. • Fielding, throwing, catching.

Some instruction in captaincy and leadership will be given to players of appropriate ability. Each day will include a match like scenario to enable participants to put what they have learned into practice. The programme for each session will be designed to meet the needs of the course participants.

At the beginning of each session participants will be grouped according to experience. Coaching will be led by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) level 2 qualified coaches (or equivalent). Coaches carry full disclosure CRB checks, and have attended courses in first aid and child protection and are accomplished cricketers. The coaching team at Oxford CC has great experience and many young players have gone on to play county, district, and even professional cricket.

Coach to player ratio will strictly follow ECB guidelines and Social distancing  measure outlined . Oxford CC is an ECB focus club, has Cubmark Status, and adopts the ECB Safehands and Child protection policies. All our courses place a strong emphasis on physical fitness, injury prevention and technical development. Each player will be given suitable programmes of exercise specifically tailored to cricket related fitness.

Attendees need to bring along appropriate Sporting clothing and foot ware, along with their cricket kit. As well as a hat, sun cream, rain jacket etc depending on weather. Finally they need to bring along a lunch, snacks, plenty of drinks and hand sanitizer.

Due to COVID-19 places will be limited and social distancing measure will be in place. We will ask junior to bring their own equipment where they can, if equipment is needed to be borrowed, we can lend some equipment out to only the individual for the day/week, and when returned it will be cleaned appropriately.

The course has two streams, for younger and older players:

  • Week 1 - Monday 27th July - Friday 31st July
  • Week 2 - Monday 3rd August - Friday 7th August 
  • Week 3 - Monday 10th August - Friday 14th August

Days run from 09:00-12:30 for half day and 09:00-15:30 for a full day. Also we have introduced a early drop off (08:30) and late pick up (16:00).

Please note that the prices is calculated and updated automatically as you choose which days you wish your child to attend.

• The prices quoted for courses are inclusive of all activities and sundries that Oxford CC provides. Bookings • Full payment of is due prior to the the first day of the course.
• All cancellations must be made in writing, and will be confirmed in writing by Oxford CC.


• If you must cancel a booking, the following refunds apply.
More than 14 days prior to course start a full refund will be made.
14‐7 days prior to booking, 50% of fees will be refunded. 
7‐1 days prior to booking, 0% of fees will be refunded. 
Alternatively, any booking may be postponed and redeemed during the same holiday period (where spaces are available).

Behaviour at the Cricket Academy

• Oxford CC reserves the right to refuse or exclude any child, at any time prior to, or during the course, if in the opinion of the coaches that the child is incompatible with the general well‐being and safe running of the course. In this instance, no refund will be given and any costs incurred, including any damage or transportation will be passed on to the parents/guardians.

• Oxford CC uses a three‐strike discipline system. Strike 1 – the child is given a verbal warning and their name is recorded, Strike 2 – the child is sent to speak to the course leader, Strike 3 – the parents are informed. If such behaviour persists, the parents will be asked to remove their child from camp. Course


• Oxford CC reserves the right to cancel courses, activities, and timetables at any time. In the event of a course being cancelled a full refund will be given. See wet weather below.

Data Protection

• Ιnformation supplied on your booking form is strictly confidential and will only be used for Oxford CC purposes. It will not be divulged to any persons or companies not connected with Oxford CC.


• Oxford CC sometimes takes pictures of its activities for advertising materials or publicity. If you do not wish your child to be photographed, please inform us on arrival at the academy.


• Oxford CC and The Oxford University Press Cricket Ground have full public liability insurance.

Practical Information

• For the Senior Academy: Your child should bring a packed lunch with them each day, preferably nut free and a drink, towel and suitable clothing and footwear for an active day at the academy. 
• Oxford CC provides squash and water during the breaks 
• All clothing should be name tagged. This is appropriate to the season and weather. In summer, for example, we would expect each child to have correct sun protection (sun hat and sunscreen) and a warm top/tracksuit. 
• Boys aged 10 and over will need to bring an abdominal protector (cricket box). 
• Otherwise, if children wish to bring their own cricket kit/equipment, they are free to do so but Oxford CC takes no responsibility for loss or damage, all other equipment required for the daily activities is provided by Oxford CC. 
• We recommend that expensive items such as jewellery, computer games, and mobile phones should be left at home, as we cannot be held responsible any for loss or damage. 
• If contact is essential, it can be made by parent/guardian to the coach who will provide a number at drop‐off. Similarly, please ensure we have up to date details of your own Emergency Contact Number.

Wet weather – As a contingency arrangement for severe wet weather we are currently arranging provision for indoor activity. This has been arranged on a “as we need it basis”. We will contact you on the morning by text if an alternative venue will be used. Therefore, it is important we have your mobile number.
